After its arrival in mid-March of this year, the Optogear Glass Lathe has now been installed in the FAMES Lab. The Optogear Glass Lathe will facilitate skilled manipulation of glass shape and form during its manufacturing process. This process is at the core of the multimaterial glass-based preform fabrication conducted by members of the lab as a means to producing structured silica fibers for uses such as opto-chemical detection, and telecommunication.
